Abstract

Infrastructure is one of the main pillars supporting economic and social development in a region. This study aims to analyze the condition of roads and bridges in Sambas Regency, identify the main problems hindering infrastructure development and improvement, and provide policy recommendations and strategies that can be implemented to improve the quality and accessibility of roads and bridges in the region. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach and also utilizes literature review. The results indicate that roads and bridges in Sambas Regency are predominantly in good condition; however, the number of damaged, slightly damaged, and severely damaged roads and bridges cannot be ignored as they remain significant in number. This situation can hinder connectivity between areas, which in turn may impact the region's economic development. The challenges hindering infrastructure development and improvement include limited funding, inadequate planning, insufficient human resources, governance issues, climatic and geographical conditions, low private sector and community participation, and reliance on the central government. The recommended strategies include expanding funding sources, data-driven planning, enhancing technical capacity, and regular maintenance.
